Why a doula?

Birth doulas provide continuous physical and emotional support for a laboring mother and her partner. Doulas offer information to enable couples to make the best decisions in labor.

Doulas also offer continuity of care. They know you and your preferences and concerns prior to labor, and they will remain with you throughout the entire process, as hospital shifts change.

Studies clearly show significant benefits of birth with a doula:

· Shorter labors, with fewer complications.

· Cesarean rates reduced by half.

· Less need for oxytocin to speed up labor.

· Reduced need for forceps.

· Women request less pain medication and epidurals.

· Women experience greater satisfaction with their experience and less postpartum depression.

· Babies have shorter hospital stays with less time in special care nurseries.

· Babies breastfeed more easily.

· Mothers are more affectionate to their babies postpartum.
